Spectacular Stemtacular – Special Class Success
Mr McCormack and Ms Gallagher’s Special Classes combined to enter the Special Class Category at this year’s Stemtacular 2026. Their project was as follows:

Name: How Can AI Support our Learning in Primary School?
Students: Shea Holohan, Cormac O’ Reilly, Evan Harrington and William Grimes.

Their project was based on what ways AI can support children in primary school. They researched different apps to find out ways that they could help them with their work. One app they found useful was Canva AI which they used to design posters. They thought this could be useful for our Student Council when they want to promote an event such as our Lá Glas or the Book Fair! Another app wrote a funny story for them when they inputted some details. They had a ‘Real or AI?’ interactive quiz where the judges and others had to distinguish between 2 photos, taken around our school, to say which was the real photo and which was photoshopped by AI! It made them realise that you have to be careful online & you can’t trust everything you see or read – it could be done with AI!
We were thrilled when their project was awarded 3rd place. The classes had a wonderful day at the event. The sensory areas from Crinion Sensory were very popular.
