Special Visitors to our School

3rd Oct 2025

We had some very special visitors to our school on Wednesday, October 1st. Grace very kindly came to our school with her Assistance Dog, Mozart. Grace is a pupil in her final year at Carrigallen Vocational School. She spoke to our 5th and 6th classes about how Mozart is helping her with her independence, confidence and social skills. It was wonderful to hear Grace speak so passionately about her Assistance Dog and the positive change he has helped bring about in her life. She reminded us that when Mozart or any Assistance Dog has their harness on, they are working and should not be distracted.

Mozart was originally trained as a Mobility Assistance Dog but is now a Task Assistance Dog. He is a pedigree Poodle and had been groomed earlier in the week to be ready for his visit to Scoil Mhuire Naofa. We were very fortunate that Grace took Mozart’s harness off in each room and allowed him to meet the pupils and be rubbed. Grace’s Mum Barbara described Mozart as “a flirt” when out and about without his harness. 😊

The Dogs for the Disabled waiting list for Assistance Dogs is open. Please see the attached flyer for contact details.
