Seachtain na Gaeilge
We recently celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge in our school.
We began our celebrations through exploring old Irish myths and legends such as The Children of Lir (Clann Lir) and the stories of Fionn Mac Cumhaill and Cú Chulainn.
Following on from this we explored seanfhocail (proverbs) through a comórtas ealaíne (art competition). Everyone produced a beautiful work of art explaining their chosen seanfhocal and two winners were picked.
As the theme of this Seachtain na Gaeilge was ‘A Ghaeilge, mo cheol thú!’ (Irish, you are my music), the deep connection between the Irish language and music is celebrated. We chose an Irish band - Kingfishr as our inspiration from this and decided to sing two of their songs at our Lá Glas. We sang Killeagh as Gaeilge and Diamonds and Roses. We also had a special performance from Mason on the banjo and our Irish dancers to The Tar Road to Sligo.
