New Sensory Corner Installed in Our Junior Special Class

15th May 2026

At Scoil Mhuire Naofa, we are continually striving to create supportive, inclusive and nurturing learning environments for all of our pupils. We are therefore delighted to share the exciting news that a brand-new sensory corner, supplied and installed by Crinion’s Sensory Rooms, has now been completed in Ms Patterson’s Junior Special Class.

The new sensory area has already become a hugely valuable addition to the classroom environment. Designed specifically to support pupils with additional sensory and communication needs, the space includes calming lighting, tactile sensory panels, mirrors, soft seating, fibre optic resources and a sensory bubble tube — all carefully selected to help children regulate, relax, engage and feel safe within their learning environment.

For many children, access to a dedicated sensory space can have enormous benefits. The sensory corner provides opportunities for:

  • emotional regulation and self-calming
  • sensory exploration and development
  • improved focus and readiness for learning
  • reduced anxiety and overstimulation
  • communication and language development
  • social interaction and play
  • wellbeing breaks throughout the school day

Our staff in the Junior Special Class have already seen how positively pupils are responding to the calming and engaging environment. The sensory corner is helping children to feel more secure, supported and ready to participate in learning activities.

As a school, we are deeply committed to continuing to improve specialist facilities for pupils with additional needs. We are hopeful that, once finances permit, we will be in a position to further enhance our sensory area and install a similar sensory corner in our Early Intervention Class next year. This would provide our youngest pupils with access to the same high-quality sensory supports during these vital early years of development.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who continues to support the development of inclusive educational spaces in Scoil Mhuire Naofa. Investments such as this make a real and lasting difference to the daily experiences of all our pupils.
